Comment on Dr. Deepak Chopra’s column: “The Universe is Either Perfect or a Total Mystery”
The tragedy begins not in the stars, but in our failure to define the mind — to leave it shrouded in mystery when it can, and must, be understood scientifically. We’ve been content with poetry when precision is possible. The universe may well be a mystery, but the mind need not be.
Numbers are the bedrock of reality — and the key to decoding not only the cosmos but the self. I have quantified the mind by mapping its development into four distinct stages:
- -2: Fetus (instinctual)
- -1: Child (emotional),
- +1: Adult (rational),
- +2: Guru (wise).
In this framework, wisdom is the +2 mind — a scientifically measurable state. Moral values become not vague ideals, but the functions of the +2 mind. This shift transforms much of what is dismissed as subjective — emotions, ethics, consciousness — into hard science.
Take war:
- War itself is -2 (primitive).
- A state of war is -1 (immature).
- Truce is +1 (civilized).
- True peace is +2 (enlightened).
The solution? We cannot expect +2 outcomes from -2 leadership. We need leaders who embody the +2 mind on both sides to manifest peace. It’s not politics. It’s math.
The sages sensed the mind; they revered it, but could not define it. I have defined the mind as the self-image — because this…
